This new year is going to be one of great growth and many challenges. In October my lovely husband got recalled by the Navy to mobilize to Afghanistan with the Army at the beginning of 2010. He will be gone almost a full year and we are viewing this time as an answer to prayer, if a somewhat unwelcome one. We have had trouble this past year finding regular employment, like so many people, and had been earnestly praying that God would provide jobs for us. Then, in the midst of our most challenging period, these orders came. Obviously, God’s answer to prayer. His ways are not always our ways. I have been asked to forward my resume and DD214 to the Director at the Personnel Office at Naval Station Mayport, which came as a huge surprise. I am also making plans to return to school to complete my Master’s Degree. I have learned over the years as a Navy wife that the secret to managing long deployments is to stay busy and focused. Which I intend to do.
As part of the desire to stay busy and focused I am going to keep a running blog of the challenges, the joys, and the tears of this coming year. So stay on the lookout for these postings which I will link to my FaceBook page. As of this moment, Richard is making brunch for us and we are grateful to have him at home these first few days of the New Year. His travel is booked, his berthing (room and board) are arranged on base, and his transportation from the Airport to the base has been confirmed, but for this moment in time, he is here and he is safe and he is loved. This is the moment we will cherish over the next long and lonely months.
I love you, my darling, my husband, my life – my heart goes with you. May you feel my constant, earnest prayers each day.
